3x3 Eyes
There are also two anime OVA series based on 3×3 Eyes. They were first released in 1991 and 1995. They were relatively short, only comprising four 30-minute episodes and three 45-minute episodes. The storyline goes up to volume 5 of the manga.
Synopsis
Pai is the last survivor of a race of three-eyed immortals known as the Sanjiyan Unkara (三只眼吽迦羅). She is over 300 years old, and is on a quest to become human, but after the passage of three centuries she can no longer remember why; nor can she recall what happened to the rest of her race, who seemingly all died whilst she was a child.
After a meeting with a Japanese archaeologist in Tibet, she comes to Japan to seek the aid of his teenage son, Yakumo Fujii, who she transforms into an immortal companion for herself, known as a Wu (无). However Pai's quest to find the Statue of Humanity (人間の像, Ningen no Zou), which is capable of turning her into a human, is dogged by demons serving Benares, servant and Wu to the mysterious god KaiyanWang (鬼目王, lit. demon-eye king). Many adventures follow.
English Version
The English-language manga was being published by Dark Horse Comics, but was canceled before the release of volume 9 in 2005. The English volumes to not correspond exactly to the Japanese tankoubons. An online translation project, Sazan Net, has produced translated scripts to enable English readers to read the original Japanese manga.
Two versions of the English anime adaptations exist; one published by Streamline Pictures and another released in 2001 by Pioneer LDC, now known as Geneon Entertainment. In the Streamline English dub, the two OVAs were combined to make a single five part series consisting of two 60 minute episodes and three 45 minute episodes.
